Samoa hotels is extremely low key with just a couple of small boutique beach resorts and one large beach hotel outside of the capital Apia. Whilst the country has some of the most picturesque beaches in the South pacific, great sightseeing opportunities and a very traditional living culture, hotels is based around hotels in Apia and a thriving traditional beach fale tourism.

Samoa is divided into two very distinct countries: Westerm Samoa and American Samoa. Divide by 60 km of water, Western Samoa retains a very traditional atmosphere and is in fact the leader in tourism.

Apia is the centre of all things in Western Samoa, and to date, the majority of Samoa's hotels are based here. The town itself is very picturesque being set in a protected harbour, and although there is no beachfront, there is excellent snorkelling at the Palolo Marine Reserve. Hotels in Apia Town is very affordable and although the town is 45-minutes from the international airport, many people spend their first nights here to get acquainted. There are some excellent restaurants and bars around town, and the surrounding rain forest is easily accessible. Robert Louis Stevenson's Museum is one of the great attractions.

Of the two large islands that make up Western Samoa, Upolu is slightly smaller but still requires a full day to see on a day tour. Here there are several beach resorts along the picturesque south coast. Savaii Island is more sparcely popluated and is dominated by high volcanic peaks which in places has recently spilled over the coast leaving behind barren volcanic lava fields. The island has some quite contrasting dramatic scenery from its volcanic landscapes to blowholes and waterfalls tumbling into the sea.

Hotels in Western Samoa comprises mostly of traditional beach fales scattered around the coastline and a few low key boutique resorts which offer excellent value for money compared to its more expensive neighbours of Fiji, Cook Islands and Tahiti. This is a great destination for those who enjoy sightseeing but water activites here are not great with the exception of surfing which is excellent.

American Samoa is a more modern centre, heavily influenced by Western society and culture, and whilst there are large tracts of untouched rain forest and National Parks, the country has neglected the promotion of tourism and there are virtually no beach resorts and just a handful of hotels aimed primarily at governement civil servants and other business people. Hotels in American Samoa is based around the airport and in Pago Pago town.
